"I wanted to create the sense of a hot summer day with a storm about to break. As children, a summer storm meant dancing in the rain and a break in the long August heat.” – Michael Parkes
In Summer Storm, an angel sits on a high tower. As dark clouds gather, rumble, and crash overhead, she takes refuge under her wings, contemplating whether to stay put or do something adventurous for a change. The artist relies on distinct detailing against the buttery, ivory surface of German etching paper.
Summer Storm, like all of Parkes’s other works, highlights central themes such as love, hope, rebirth, and death. These themes allow viewers to embrace unfamiliar emotions and exciting perspectives. Every piece of work by the artist is meticulously created to support a riveting narrative, a symbolic representation, or an esoteric doctrine of life beyond the realms of reality.
