This is a one of a kind piece of art history!
Original hand-painted NBC News Weather helicopter fuselage of a flying tiger by LeRoy Neiman, circa 1981. Here is the incredible story as told by Neiman himself in his autobiographical book, "All Told".
"No painting of mine has taken a bigger dive than the one that got baptized in the East River. I'd painted a tiger on the fuselage of an NB Weather helicopter as homage to the World War II Flying Tigers. After laying the groundwork at a US Marine Air Base, I finished on the "Today Show" in front of a live audience in Central Park at Tavern on the Green. It flew weather missions over Manhattan for less than a month before it crashed into the East River. Salvaged intact, pilot and crew unharmed, the chopper was sold to a Seattle TV station only to plunge into the Puget Sound. Again, it was fished out with no fatalities and sold to a private party. So much for the friendly skies."
What a story!
