    Contemporary French-Impressionist Artist

    H. Claude Pissarro

Perhaps never in the history of art has there existed such a high probabliity that an artist would become recognized as a master painter. Claude Pissarro is the grandson of Camille Pissarro and son of Paul Emile Pissarro, two of the most celebrated French Impressionists. Claude is the third generation of this famous legacy.

Claude Pissarro gained vast knowledge from the two artistic masters of his family. Camille Pissarro was not only considered one of the most famous painters in history, he was also a highly regarded teacher. Among his pupils were Cezanne and Gaugin, as well as Claude's father and uncle. His father, Paul Emile, spent many hours guiding and helping his son Claude to develop his own style and technique. Claude studied the works of the masters at the Louvre and Jeu de Paume. For more than fifty years of his life Claude Pissarro has devoted himself both mentally and physically to art.

It has been a difficult but rewarding journey for Claude Pissarro. He lives under the shadow of his artistic heritage, yet now has gained International respect for his own talents. His method of investigation, clashed with an attitude which regarded everything connected with his grandfather's life and work, as sacred. His dual education, traditionalist (due to his origins) and avant-gardist (because of his generation) means that he has been able to discover the dialect of violence and affection. He was able to remove his grandfather from his pedestal and only then discover him, meet with him and get to know and love him.

Pissarro lives in Ireland and continually returns to work in his native region in Normandy, France. He paints with great fluidity and dazzling light, his beautiful landscapes and harbor scenes often going beyond the accomplishments of his famous father and grandfather
