Katia Pissarro, French (1936-2001)
Katia Pissarro was an established European art dealer who became part of the multi-generational Pissarro family of artists, upon her marriage to Hugues Claude Pissarro in 1958. H Claude Pissarro, her husband, is the son of Paul-Emile Pissarro and grandson of the patriarch, Camille Pissarro. With H. Claude Pissarro, Katia gave birth to three children, Joachim, an art historian; Lionel, an art dealer; and Lelia, an artist who is carrying on the family tradition into the fourth generation.
Katia became entrenched in the history of the Pissarro legacy and with impressionist and post-impressionist artists. She became an art historian and authenticator of artwork and later in life painted canvases that depicted California landscapes, the French country side and cities. Her painting career was brief leaving fewer paintings than her family of artists did. Yet through her husband and daughter the legacy continues. Her work can be found in fine art galleries here and abroad.
