
Tom McKinney, American
Tom McKinney illustrator, designer and now prolific watercolorist and portrait artist artist studied at the John Hussian Schools of Art and the Philadelphia College of Art.
McKinney paints that which he loves in life, images from the black community, painting in the spirit of the whose life he has touched. He expresses in his portraits an understanding of his varied subjects. His attention to his portrayal of many of the old jazz greats. such as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie and John Coltrane. His gentle portrayals of neighborhood people and especially the elderly have a similar poignancy, compassion, warmth and familiarity.
Tom has travelled extensively throughout the United States, South American and Europe exhibiting his art in many different venues.
Tom has been featured in many publications throughout the country and he and his artwork have made numerous television appearances. In addition, to his countless awards, his works are represented in innumerable corporate corporate institutional and private collections. Tom has also worked for and with many vocal artists the like of Teddy Pendergrass and Grover Washington, Jr. His works has appeared on television sets “Bill Cosby Show”, “Bustin Loose” and “Franks Place”. He continues to exhibit his work for private institutions.
