This lovely nude lithograph by Douglas Hofmann is abundant with color, texture and pattern. The young woman lays on the divan on brightly colored pillows and an Indian bedspread. She is surrounded by tropical influences, the bamboo furniture all around and the ferns and other plants in the room, as well. Behind her on the wall is a very well known French poster by Alphonse Mucha Bieres de la Meuse. The combination of the fabrics, the furniture, the plants, the poster and of course, the woman give you the feeling of perhaps a San Francisco apartment, or maybe New York City?

Douglas Hofmann has made the viewer a part of the environment. You are a part of the work, are you perhaps the painter, or the photographer? But he draws you in and you can create the storyline in your own imagination.

Douglas Hofmann was born in Baltimore Maryland in 1945. He received his bachelor of fine Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art.

His paintings have been critically acclaimed for their glowing surfaces, sumptuous details and softly lighted forms. Douglas Hofmann expertly combines his own methods of painting with the techniques of the old masters which Douglas learned from Joseph Sheppard at the Maryland Institute College of Art.

The beautiful aura of light and atmosphere found in great Baroque paintings pervades his work. Hofmann gives meticulous attention to detail, and creates harmonious compositions with superbly balanced colors and shapes. Douglas's work has been exhibited in numerous group and one-man shows at prestigious galleries and museums in every major city in USA and Japan. His lithographs have introduced Douglas' work to a wide range of collectors. Beautifully produced, they are the epitome of fine art publishing, utilizing traditional methods to create original print of the highest standard. The rarity of Douglas' original paintings has meant that the the main access to his work has been through such lithographs.
