The Last Lion was the very first Giclee limited-edition that artist Michael Parkes created in conjunction with his master printer Marcel Salome. At the time the Giclee printing technique, the inks and materials were still in their infancy.

The Last Lion limited-edition was created on German Etching paper using the now historic Scitex Iris printer. These Scitex Iris printers were the very first printers used to create Giclee editions. The term Giclee was eve invented for these printers! The entire edition of The Last Lion sold out in a very short time and has become very rare. This has increased the value of the artwork immensely.

From Michael Parkes: "After millions of years the king of beasts still exists, but only just. It is said that each animal species has a protective guardian. Here she is the Deva of lions, the one who has for so long nurtured them as they grew into their stature of grandeur. The last lion is dying. What do those angel-protectors do when the last of their species is gone? What must she feel, waiting for her son's last breath on earth?"
