Five master printers combined to create these unequaled prints for Hisashi. The highest museum-quality double-thick paper was used and finished with a mother-of-pearl spray coat to emulate his originals on silk. Each print is embossed and some are plated with gold or silver.
FATHER AND SON (The Red and White Lions) - Japanese legend has it that long ago, the lion, like an ancient Asian lord, lived upon the land in majestic supremacy. So splendid was its nobility that to this day it is still symbolically a protector of Japan’s most cherished ideals.
In the lyrical drama of Kabuki, the treasured theater of Japan, the lion portrays the indomitable warrior spirit that is the very strength of the Japanese people. Hisashi Otsuka, himself a disciple of this warrior code, has captured the essence of its legacy in this brilliant image, The Father and Son.
Dancing in the shadow of the pine tree, the Japanese symbol of strength and endurance, the red and white lions, resplendent in their Kabuki costumes, celebrate the son’s emergence into manhood. The age and wisdom of the father in white is reflected in the youth and vigor of his son in red as they swirl their respective manes in jubilation.
Gratitude, perseverance and a newfound sense of independence are realized anew in The Father and Son, a classic by Hisashi Otsuka!
